Nature Of The World - 7 Amazing Things To Do In Cappadocia That Will Help You Travel- Turkey

Cappadocia is a beautiful place in central Turkey that is famous for its mythological landscape, cave dwellings, remarkable rock formations and, of course, hundreds of hot air balloons flying in the sky at sunrise every morning.

There is also a spectacular mountain range in Cappadocia, which will take you at least a week to explore all the different mountain travel routes in the region.

I spent ten days in Cappadocia going all the way to the mountains, exploring ancient valleys and marveling at the hot air balloons. I have created this list of all the great things to do in Cappadocia to help you explore this beautiful region.

1. One of the most outstanding times to fly in a Hot Air Balloon is early morning soon after Sunrise.

Hot Air Balloon is early morning soon after Sunrise.

The hot Cappadocian balloons quickly became one of the most common travel bucket lists in the world. It is not hard to see why it floats above the seamen of the historic caves of Goreme City and more than 100 balloons at sunrise in what can only be likened to a fairy tale scene.

Each year more than half a million people enjoy the hot air balloon in Cappadocia, which is a remarkable number and makes the region the world's first hot air balloon.

I think part of the spectacle sees all the other balloons in the air at the same time, not just the magnificent flying space.

Goreme Open Air Museum

The Goreme Open-Air Museum is one of the most fascinating and historic sites in Cappadocia with audio tours guiding ancient paintings, churches and cave houses from centuries past.

The tour below actually includes the Goreme Open-Air Museum with a guide (I highly recommend it) and a visit to some of the most famous sites in Cappadocia.

The Goreme Open-Air Museum is very close to the city center in Goreme, the most famous city in Cappadocia. You can get to the Goreme Open Air museum from the city center and it can take up to 15 minutes and a little uphill.

3.Explore Ihlara Valley & Underground City of Cappadocia

3.Explore Ihlara Valley & Underground City of Cappadocia
Ihlara Valley

The Ihlara Valley is a magnificent canyon with a spectacular river that flows down the center 16km in the middle of a volcanic rock. It is close to the province of Aksaray but is still considered part of the southern region of Cappadocia.

It is a good place to hike easily amidst the peaceful, leafy nature and being the base of cave churches, where you will find many of them along the way. The Ihlara Valley is mostly made up of parts from Selime to Ihlara Village.

Along the way, you will encounter many churches. 16 of the 105 churches are open to visitors and are provided with incomplete paintings and sculptures inside.

For a few hours, do not forget that you are out in the dry, desert and hear the sounds of the forest as you walk under the tree canopy, climb over rocks, and walk through grassy areas. Wildflowers of all colors paint the sidewalks and guide your eyes along the trail and toward the steep cliffs on both sides of the gorge. There is even a waterfall where you can swim, which is why it makes it one of the top ten must-haves in Cappadocia.

4. Meskendir valley heart of Turkey's Central Anatoli

Meskendir is a short trail in Goreme that leads you through many cave dwellings and historical sites as well as numerous tunnels. It’s a shady way, which makes it a great suggestion during the day. I combined the Meskendir Trail, the Rose Valley Trail, and the Red Valley Trail all into one excellent trip as the roads connected. However, if you choose a shorter trip, you can simply opt out of the Meskendir Trail and take a round trip back.

The Trail has a series of very fine sandstone tunnels. Some of them looked like tunnels on the Love Valley Trail but these tunnels were long and the roof was very high.

At every corner there would be a small opening that could reveal the amazing cave dwellings and historical sites.

The huge walls of the windows and the pigeon holes were above us as we imagine what the tunnel and stairs looked like inside.

It is amazing to try and imagine all of Cappadocia living this way of living centuries ago. There were even paintings on the wall.

5.Lake Tuz – Incredible Salt Lake

Lake Tuz

Lake Tuz is a magnificent saltwater lake near Aksaray but only for more than an hour from Cappadocia. The lake looks amazing because of its bright pink color. No matter how different this place is, it is not very popular and when I visit I enjoy the whole lake alone in my opinion.

This place is technically not in Cappadocia but it is just a trip and we visited it on the same day with Derinkuyu Underground City and Ilhara Gorge on our day trip from Cappadocia.

I highly recommend that you visit these three places outside of Goreme if you rent a car or hire a day driver.

6.Derinkuyu Underground City-Turkey

Derinkuyu Underground City Caves are one of the most spectacular views to Cappadocia. Go down to more than five levels of the cave system, which once housed more than 20,000 people and their livestock! Derinkuyu Underground City was a secret for a long time! It was not until a local man in Nevsehir Province decided to renovate his home that an ancient city was found.

After tearing down the wall, he found an unfamiliar room and continued digging, uncovering a complex tunnel system with a series of cave chambers.

7.Red Valley is the most beautiful and impressive place of Cappadocia

Red Valley

Red Valley

The Red Valley is up there with my favorite place in Cappadocia. Sharp sandstone ridges glow in red, bright as the sun heats up in a unique place in the last days of sunset every night. There is a nice trail loop or you can drive straight at sunset to relax on a cafe or ride up to the flag viewing area.

When it comes to hiking in Cappadocia, it is difficult to cross the Red Valley. Sharp sandstone ridges glow in red, bright as the sun heats up in a unique place in the last days of sunset every night. If you have a few nights in Cappadocia, but this is at the top of the list for sunsets.

There is a good trail that connects Meskindir and the Rose Valley either you can drive straight to the viewing area to relax at the cafe or ride up to the flag viewing area. Whether you are on foot or not, this is one of the must-visit places in Cappadocia.

A hiking trail is associated with the Rose Valley many times and leads you to an ancient church within one of the caves, past the yellow sandstone cliffs and amazing habitats. The route is different and is limited only by the difficulty which makes it a good trip and the best things to do in Cappadocia.
